Early Entrance Auditions

Auditions for incoming students 2019-2020. Don’t worry if you don’t have magnet points! You can still get into AMPA by auditioning for our prestigious music and performing arts programs. Please email susan.freitag@lausd.net for audition information.

EARLY DECISION Audition Requirements

JANUARY 12, 2019

DANCE: 

Audition is one hour long.  Be prepared to learn a dance routine.

Wear appropriate dance clothing. (Hair should be pulled up and no jewelry)

INSTRUMENTAL:  (Jazz, Winds, Strings, Percussion and Piano)

Be prepared to play major scales, (minor of possible)

Play a one to two minute memorized piece from the genre you are auditioning for.

If you are auditioning for WINDS bring a copy of your music.

Sight reading will be tested.

GUITAR:

Play a piece demonstrating “Classical Technique: finger picking, style and scales.

DRAMA:

Prepare a 1-2 minute memorized monologue form a published play.

MUSICAL THEATER:

Prepare and memorized a 1 minute song from a Broadway show.

Prepare a monologue. (You can use the same one from the drama audition)

VOCAL:

Prepare a classical song of 32 measures in English or Italian

Bring your own CD or IPOD accompaniment.

Be prepared to sight read a short measure melody in C Major.

All horn players will audition for both Jazz and Winds.

All jazz piano players will also audition for classical piano.
